Task: whether this is an interview for a job or university, answer the questions selling yourself and show them what you can do and why you deserve the job or why you deserve a place in the university.
Tell me about yourself:
My name is Beatrice and I’m 17 years old. I am from Romania and i’ve been living in London since 2015. I am currently living in south east London (Lewisham). I enjoy doing media and I want to work in the Film&TV industry as a director or editor. Obviously to become a director i have to be a filmmaker first and to do that i need to invest in my work more.
Why are you interested in working in the Film&TV industry as a director or editor?
I watch lots of films and one day I started wondering how these films were made and how I would like to make my own films one day. So I enrolled for the Film&TV course at Westminster Kingsway and i started learning how to edit films and direct. That got me interested and I decided that being a director or an editor is my dream job.
What is your favourite thing about this industry?
Working in the Film&TV industry means working with other people and that’s one thing I like about it. I get to speak to people and hear about their ideas and at the end we all create something together and make the film better. If you’re making a film you need to hear ideas from other people and improve anything you’re not confident enough.
What makes you right for this position?
I’ve studied Film&TV and i pretty much know how things work in this industry and I just believe that if you enjoy one thing you do it right. And that’s what I do in this industry. I do well because i enjoy it. I’ve made a couple of short films in the past and i would like to have the opportunity to do even bigger things and go to the next stage.
What qualities do you bring to the role?
I am an organised person and i like to have things sorted out. I’m also a punctual person because i believe that if I’m late to something it would bring me down.
What do you bring to the organisation?
Creativity and I like to encourage people who are not confident enough with their work.
Describe something significant that has happened to you.
I was always told by people that they are scared to try and do the job they want because it may not work out so I thought about it and i started telling people that life doesn’t wait for you to decide what you want to do and you should go for what makes you happy and do the job you want because if you let the first opportunity go, you may not get a second chance/opportunity.
What do you enjoy about your course?
I enjoy editing. I like adding things to my films or whatever task the teacher gives me. I like to add things because i want my work to be better and i know that for some tasks adding effects would not be an advantage so i try to make it work by cutting some parts.
What are your main weaknesses – how do you deal with them?
I guess sometimes i get intimidated by other people because they do better in some tasks and that brings me down. I don’t always have good ideas so i try to think of good ones before i speak.
Describe yourself in 3 words.
Friendly, adventurist and spontaneous.
Conclusion: I learned that to get what you want, you need to show them the best of you.
