Primary research:
Primary research is when you find the information you are looking for by yourself. That means that you cannot take the information from someone else and say it is yours. Gathering information by yourself mean you need to actually get out of the house and explore. But that doesn’t apply to all cases as you can do it online as well. For example, if you are looking to do a survey you can create it online and send it to people and that is an advantage because you don’t need to go out and waste time looking for someone to answer your questionnaire/survey.
However, if you want to observe and you like to go out and explore/see things by yourself you can do it. But that may be some time consuming. Observing is more like a process: ups go out, you see things, you write them down. To be able to observe people you need to read their facial expressions and that can be difficult sometimes because some people are hard to read. You may be wrong. But if you do a survey you can directly as them and they will tell you what they think.
Observing people’s behaviour can leave questions unanswered because you may have to sit somewhere and watch comparing to surveys.
Surveys can be postal, online or face-to-face. Postal surveys could take a while to get an answer back so if you’re looking for a fast answer you would prefer the face-to-face survey.
Secondary research:
Secondary research involves using information that others gathered by themselves (primary research).
An advantage of it, is that the information already exists so you don’t need to gather it by yourself and it saves time. Also if you need to do a project or an essay in a short period of time secondary research may be your only salvation since it’s already out there for you to find on internet.
However, if you are looking on the internet you may find different articles on that specific topic so then it may take you some time to see many articles and decide if that’s the right information. Or you may need to check the quality of the article.
If you are looking on websites like wikipedia, the information is most likely to be false or not entirely true because anyone can post on that website.
If you are taking the research from a book, that’s most likely to have a better quality and to be true because not anyone publics a book and becomes famous.
You can also watch tutorials or reviews on Youtube. When people make reviews it helps you create an idea in your mind so it’s easier for you to choose if you ever need an opinion. However, people like different things so it may be a bad influence for you.
