I would like to get into Photography because I want to express all the ideas I have in my mind and by going to university I hope to study the best way to do so.
When I was doing my GCSEs I discovered that I love taking photos of anything and I had the opportunity to develop my passion for photography even more when I had been given the choice of studying media. During the time I was studying media I learnt how to use the camera and not only on auto mode, which helped me gain knowledge and now I’m taking photos of friends who in the future would like to open, for example, their own coffee shop.
Also when I was doing my GCSEs, every week, we have been given the assignment of making a three minute presentation, which now I find very helpful and I’ve gained more confidence. I think that having the confidence to make a presentation in front of people is always going to be a useful tool because you never know what kind of job you are going to have, so since I’ve been doing a lot of presentations I believe my level of confidence went up.
I am currently studying a Creative Media course at Westminster Kingsway College where we are being encouraged to better ourselves and create websites, YouTube channels and use social media platforms to our advantage and also challenge ourselves to create remarkable projects which hopefully, someday will get us to the top. On my course I’ve also learnt lots of editing softwares such as Adobe where we’ve learned how to use Premiere Pro, which was one of the most used program since we had to edit the films we were making.
While studying Film and Television, we made quite a few short films where we were supported with equipment to create great movies and we’ve learned about the angles a movie should have, such as the 180 degree and many more.
Up until now I have been doing 2 work experiences, one of them was working at Natwest bank where I had to guide people towards the right till and I’ve also learnt how to open a bank account. The place where I did work experience for 2 weeks was working at Wall to Wall (Warner Bros.) where I did lots of transcribing and researching. I’ve also had a peak at how their industry works, for example when I was working for the Long Lost Family production I have seen the process they have for finding someone which is how they take in consideration every detail and put everything together to find people.
I hope that by going to university and studying photography, I will learn more about the history of photography as in the past I didn’t get the chance to do so. I believe that learning about the history of photography I will get inspired from the past and hopefully bring out the greatest ideas that one day have been famous, but doing it so my way. Going to university will give me the opportunity to work in a creative environment and develop photography skills which will then help me understand how to capture fashion and challenge myself to take great photos. Going to study photography means that I will have to build my confidence as the job requires to meet many people and if I learn how to develop that, I will be confident in what I’m doing and learn how to understand what each person who I will have take photos of, wants whether it’s for promoting a business for them or promoting themselves. The confidence I will learn to have in university will help me fulfil my potential for my chosen career path.
