Task: Write 3 pros and 3 cons for every type of contract
FULL TIME PERMANENT CONTRACT: you get offered a permanent position.
Pros: a fixed salary, you get more holidays and job advancement is easier.
Cons: it gets boring to do the same job for years, having a full time job doesn’t not allow you to get involved in other activities and discover new passions and you become stagnant.
PART TIME PERMANENT CONTRACT: fewer contracted hours than a full-time employee
Pros: you have more free time to get involved in different activities, if you get sick another part time worker can cover you and two part-timers may provide a wider set of skills than one person could.
Cons: part time workers may have to do more jobs in one day which leads them to exhaustion, part timers do not have the same experience as the ones that work full time jobs and administrative costs for part timers may be higher.
FREELANCE CONTRACT: self-employed or part of other companies.
Pros: you get more independence, you gain skills quicker and you get paid for every hour you work.
Cons: if you want to go on holiday you don’t get paid, the risk is bigger because you’re on your own and you get stressed because you constantly need to search for your next paycheck.
SHIFT WORK CONTRACT: employ people to work shifts and keep their business operating 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
Pros: shift workers may not need to work while others have to, so that can help them do their things while is not traffic, shiftwork may work with an individual’s body clock and they can receive better pay as often the employer will pay a shift enhancement.
Cons: shift workers may have to work at night and that would affect their health.
OFFICE HOURS CONTRACT: working from 9am-5pm (Monday-Friday)
Pros: you get the weekends off an you get to rest at night.
Cons: morning rush, workers have to pay more for the transport in the morning and if they have children they need to pay for nursery.
IRREGULAR AND ANTI SOCIAL HOUR: working at night
Pros: You don’t work on weekdays, you can get involved in other activities
Cons: you can’t really go out on weekdays because your friends may work those days (different schedule), you work at night and this is a health risk because you don’t rest when you should.
SALARIED CONTRACT: paid based on an annual amount
Pros: often salaried positions come with a higher status and/or a jump on the pay scale, some companies offer salaried employees additional perks, such as vacation days or a more flexible schedule.
Cons: you need to keep the money so you have them till you get the next salary (which is after 1 year).
ON COMMISSION CONTRACT: between an employer and an employee for work paid on commission
Pros: you control your income and you have your own schedule
Cons: you don’t get paid hourly, you might be seen as high-risk and the turnover rate for your work may be greater
FIX TERM CONTRACT: given by employers on the basis that the contract will terminate at a future date when a specific ‘term’ expires
Pros: workers have the right not to be treated less favourably, automatically become a permanent employee
Cons: job applicants may not find the prospect of a short contract as attractive as a permanent option.
ZERO HOUR CONTRACT: you can go to work whenever the employer needs you there.
Pros: you can decline the offer to work that day if you are not able to, you get extra income and a chance of permanent work.
Cons: unpredictable hours, pressure if the employer wants you turn up for last minute shifts and the employer may not give you stable cash.
