For Unit 8 final project I made a film about dance where I tried to show the issue a lot of dancers face: support from their families. A lot of dancers don’t have the permission to dance which creates issues between them and their parents because they feel that their support helps them keep trying till they succeed. If they don’t have the support, it leaves no choice for the passionate dancers, but to hide their passion for dance.
This film was meant to show the audience that even though dancers don’t have the approval to dance, they will keep on doing it because if they really feel that dance is one of the best decisions ever made by them, then they will keep dancing.
In my proposal I wrote about the 2 dancers having the same passion for dance but they’re complete strangers with only one thing in common: they go to the same college.
While filming I thought I would add a scene with them passion by each other, something like they’re almost touching their shoulders but they go opposite ways.
In the proposal I also wrote how the dancer would go in front of the mirror where she would ‘reflect’ on what her life would look like if she could dance more. I did not film that part with the girl (contemporary dancer) because since I had a ballet dancer it would suit him better to do it instead of the contemporary dancer. So I had the ballet dancer go in front of the mirror and do some stretches while he’s deeply thinking.
Before I wrote the proposal, I had the idea of making a film with only one dancer as I did not want to bring my hopes up of planning the film to have many dancers and in the end to get no one to be in the film. So I made the film to have one dancer where it would focus on her story. But then I got 2 people interested in being part of the film so I changed the plot to 2 characters struggling to keep dancing when the pressure is high.
