What is 360 format?
360-degree photos basically show what the photographer sees. With a 360 degree camera, we can see everything that surrounds the camera by dragging the image to the desired direction. The image can be dragged up, down, left, right and sometimes it can be zoomed.
How do different systems consume 360 media?
One way of seeing in 360, is by using a VR headset. The VR headset replaces the viewer’s natural environment with virtual reality content. It’s formed by a ”goggles” holding a smartphone. As you’re using the VR headset, you can move around and see the surroundings, just like you do by seeing a 360 photograph.
You can also see videos in 360. You do the same thing. You drag the image with your finger where you want to see, or you can move your smartphone around to see the surroundings. A 360-degree photograph/video can also be viewed on a computer or tablet.
How immersive are the different ways of accessing spherical format?
The spherical format can be accessed easier on smartphones because you can just move it around. However, the spherical format on computers is not as easy to use, because you cannot move the computer around as you would do with a smartphone. Viewing a 360-degree photograph on a computer means you’ll have to drag around to see the surroundings.
How can you use these different methods with different types of plot/narrative?
The 360 degree camera can be used in the helicopter for example, where the person who holds the camera could take it a bit out and show the beautiful view. If it’s at night, it’s even better as it would show the whole town lit up.
